  1. In the first thing, Hello and what inspired the formation of Nothing To Lose?

Hi Loyalcore and thanks for the interview!!! What inspired us were bands like Terror, Agnostic Front, Nasty, Hatebreed. The bands we listened to as teenagers. But our local scene in Rouen has a lot to do with it. Bands like Primal Age, Elephants, … . What attracted us was the atmosphere of the hardcore scene in general, it's mutual aid, everyone is equal, there are no differences. Do hardcore to express yourself freely, to challenge social and political norms, and to share values.

 2. What are the main themes and messages that Nothing To Lose aims to convey through their music?

We often talk about problems in our society. Selfish people, who sit ass in front of their TV and think they know everything, when they are not capable of helping the people around them. Politicians who destroy our society and our planet by putting financial profit first before the human side.

Simon (the singer) to work in the Emergency Department at the hospital and denounces the destruction of the public hospital in France and the mistreatment that is happening to patients and caregivers, because of budgetary costs reduced from year to year. The texts generally address political issues and address contemporary or individual social problems and intolerance. Not very happy subjects, but unfortunately current… .

The main message that we want to defend on stage is to take care of our loved ones, our friends, our family and the people around us. We only have one life, so we might as well take advantage of it to help each other and move forward together.

 3. Can you describe the evolution of Nothing To Lose’s sound since their inception in 2016?

The group took a turning point in 2019, we are starting from scratch. Simon had just arrived as a rhythm guitarist and therefore took up singing afterwards. Once ready, we recorded “Obey” and just as we finished recording the track “Society”, the same day it was the COVID lockdown. After all this shit that lasted 2 years, we resumed concerts, we matured “Obey”.

We had Didier from Sound Of Silence, who led the group for 1 year, he helped us a lot thanks to his 30 years of experience with Primal Age. This allowed us to turn the group around and help us evolve as well. He's a superb person, thank you again Didier! The sound of Nothing To Lose has evolved as our concerts and our desires progress. A bit like a bottle of wine that ages (laughs). There is no secret, what makes things evolve are the concerts and the audience present.

 4. How does Nothing To Lose’s latest album ‘Obey’ reflect the band’s growth and the hardcore beatdown genre?

“Obey” is our first EP, it’s hard to give an opinion on the growth of the group. I think this answer will be easier to give for the next album ! Concerning our style of music we make hardcore with beatdown influences, in reality we don't try to stay in a particular style of hardcore, we play what we love above all !

 5. You have been working on an upcoming album since about January, when do you plan to release it and will it be different from ‘Obey’?

We finished recording the guitar and drums in the studio, now it's the bass's turn. The voice in May/June. We would like the release to take place at the end of the year. We really want to take our time and make an album that shows the evolution of the group. The next album will surely be more mature and more thoughtful than “Obey”. We took the time to compose the songs. So the album will be more evolved, but we won't say more, we'll leave you the surprise (laughs)

 6. How has the band’s lineup change affected the creative process and the direction of their music?

We really took a hit when we lost our former singer, we tried other people, but humanly it didn't work. So we wanted to stay with 4, at least we were sure of not having any bad surprises! Then the direction of music came naturally and we are here today! Then COVID also allowed us to work quietly in our corner before starting the concerts. For us, the group has officially existed since 2019.

 7. You are going to play on the HellStage at HellFest next June, is this the biggest event you will participate in, and how do you anticipate it?

We've played festivals in our area and on tour before, but not as big as Hellfest. So yes, this is the biggest event we are going to participate in! We can't wait to get on the Hellstage and set it on fire! It’s a great experience for us and for the group! We work alone, we did a residency in a performance hall to be in shape and work on our set list correctly. We can't wait, we're excited and we're ready to set it on fire !

 8. Do you plan to release more videos like the one for ‘State Of Terror’ that came out recently, or will you focus on gigs this summer?

When the album comes out, we'll probably do a music video again, it's under discussion. This summer we have Hellfest and that’s it. We remain focused on the album to be ready for the end of the year.

And there are also dates planned for the end of the year, with friends from Rennes from the group Entertain The Terror. It’s going to be very clever, we warn you! (Laugh).

We also have other dates, but for the moment nothing has come out yet, we will say everything on our networks in due time !
