1. What is the meaning and significance of the band's name, Death Note Silence? How does it relate to their musical style and themes?
We choosed that name because it sounded good and didn't mean nothing. We didn't search further.
2. How does the band use choirs, violins, pianos, and other classical instruments in their metalcore/deathcore songs? What effect does this have on the listeners and their emotions?
We have a lot of choirs and electronic sounds in our music. We can't lie about that. In fact, We wanted to make metalcore/ deathcore music but we wanted to create something big. It brings a lot to our performance. At some moments during the shows, we have goosebumps.
3. How does the band balance their underground status and their mainstream appeal? Do they face any challenges or criticisms from their fans or the music industry?
Honestly, it's hard for us to fit in the actual music industry. We are too metalcore for deathcore fans and too deathcore for metalcore fans. As for the industrial ambiance we try to recreate, you'll understand that we don't fit as an Industrial band as well. Haha
4. How does the band express their social and political views through their lyrics and music videos? Do they aim to raise awareness, challenge norms, or inspire action?
We do not express political views as the band members are not all on the same page. However, our social views is pretty much the same. We are mostly talking about the way we feel in the actual world. We do not try to raise awareness. I think our music touch some people and they are naturally joining us on our ride.
5. How does the band draw inspiration from other genres and artists, such as Motionless in White, Ice Nine Kills, Parkway Drive, and Despised Icon? How do they incorporate, adapt, or transform these influences in their own music?
Honestly, it's hard for us to fit in the actual music industry. We are too metalcore for deathcore fans and too deathcore for metalcore fans. As for the industrial ambiance we try to recreate, you'll understand that we don't fit as an Industrial band as well. Haha
6. How does the band reflect the culture and identity of Quebec, Canada, and their hometown of Shawinigan? How do they relate to their local and national audiences?
There is something special about our local scene. Its like if we always knew the people coming at our shows. It's a family. This is something every band around here are really proud of. From Montreal, going through Shawinigan to Quebec city, we remember the people, the bands, the bars, the sound guy etc... It's a big family.
7. How does the band cope with the challenges and pressures of being a professional musician, such as touring, recording, performing, and collaborating? How do they balance their personal and professional lives?
We recently decided to do a little bit less and have fun instead of going too hard and get tired. But yeah we work during the week and we spends our days off for shows and recordings.
8. How does the band evolve and innovate their musical style and sound over time? How do they respond to feedback, criticism, and changing trends?
We do what we like. We don't really care about criticism. We do not conform to a style in order to have more fans. We do what we love and people come to us.
9. How does the band communicate and interact with their fans and followers? How do they use social media, online platforms, and live events to engage and connect with their audience?
We are close to each other. We like to chat during shows, at the merch table or online. We are pretty responsive and we individually interact a lot with the fans.
10. How does the band contribute to the metalcore/deathcore scene and community? How do they support and collaborate with other bands and artists in the genre?
Through the years, we have been individually involved in different activities. Some of us have side projects, other bands, been involved into contest, booked shows... Most of us started to be involved more than 20 years ago. So we've done a lot but most of us prefer to be behind the scene.
11. How does the band explore and express their personal and collective identity, values, and beliefs through their music? How do they deal with any conflicts or contradictions that may arise?
This is the reason why we don't express political views haha. But we know each others and we feel pretty much the same so most part of the times, we are on the same page.
12. How does the band's music affect and influence their listeners and society at large? What are the potential benefits and harms of their music?
Death Note Silence is a band that unite people togheter. As we said previously, our fanbase follow us. I think that we are coming from that same place and we feel the same. We share a good moment togheter( The show) and that's it. That moment we are sharing is all that matter.
13. How does the band's music relate to the philosophical concepts of aesthetics, ethics, and metaphysics? How do they address questions such as what is beauty, what is good, and what is real?
Sometimes, we bring those subjects by asking question to our public in our songs. (You can relate to our song (Agnostic) We don't really take a position to what is good or wrong, what is real or not. We brings some facts and question ourselves just like everyone would do.
14. How does the band's music challenge and expand the definition and boundaries of music? What are the necessary and sufficient conditions for classifying something as music?
Honestly I don't know. Have you ever of Yoko Ono? I don't know if we can call it music but I'm probably sure you can call that art. And as an artist, we can't judge what we don't understand. Each his own.
15. How does the band's music reflect and respond to the current and historical context of the world? How do they address issues such as globalization, technology, environment, and social justice?
I'm happy you are asking that question. Our latest album is mostly talking about what we are seeing right now and we made a huge parallel between the actual world and all that touch algorithm, Artificial intelligence, communication and the evolution of the technology and the place its taking in our lives.
